My '05 suspension was pretty great. It ate rocks right up and really hardly ever deflected. Almost always held my line. It was a bigger, heavier bike that wanted to stand up in corners, but settled into them nicely when properly executed.
Fast forward to 2018.
I bought my 300 XCW and had immediate regrets. I couldn’t ride it to save my life. However, once I got the jetting all sorted out (took about 10 hours), the bike was great, quickly becoming the best bike I ever had.
Before taking delivery of the bike I had XXXXX springs, appropriate for my weight, installed but retained the stock Xplor valving. I honestly thought the suspension was not too bad. It was far from great, but it did ok. Honestly any shortcomings I attributed to myself and not to the suspension. I also told myself that no 2 stroke would ever feel as planted and solid and predictable and confidence inspiring as a big heavy 4 stroke could. Boy, was I wrong.
Just last week I had Tony at REP, up in Massachusetts, tune my suspension using the latest technology from K-Tech, the ORVS and the Reservoir Bladder Conversion. I got my suspension, put it back on the bike and took the weekend to get it dialed in to my liking. I rode about 120 miles over the weekend. All typical Northeast terrain. Rocky. Rooty. Some mud. Some faster stuff, some hard enduro type stuff."
"This suspension is absolutely amazing. Light years ahead of the stock Xplor stuff and even the XXXXX set up on my '05, that I thought was pretty spectacular. With the K-tech smaller rocks, and roots and sticks, up to approximately 4" in diameter, just disappear. I don't even feel them, much less give them any consideration. It's like being on a magic carpet. Line choice is obviously still a very important part of riding and ultimately effects speed and momentum, but now, when a mistake is made and I am thrown off of, or out of, my line, I can just maintain my speed and momentum and put myself right back where I need to be. The size of the obstacles encountered in doing so seem to matter very little. The suspension just eats it up and transfer very little of the energy through the bike and into my body.
I am really blow away at how much more confident I am on this new suspension. It make me faster, I feel safer, I have more fun, and I felt (even on badly worn tires) like I was glued to the ground and any line I so choose.
I really cannot say enough good about this set up. If you have the opportunity to ride a bike with this set up, do it. It is worth every penny and then some."
"I agree 100%. We did the K-Tech ORVS along with their bladder on our '19 300 TPI. Drew Smith @ WER did mine but Tony @ REP is awesome too. Both highly experienced, K-Tech stocking dealers. I respect the fact that K-Tech has been very selective in who sells and installs their product. They have no interest in selling their components to every Tom, Dick & Harry that claims to be a suspension expert.
-Funny how you described it as a "magic carpet ride" as those were my exact words when describing this system to a buddy. "
"Thank you for the review. I just installed the ORVS kit into my '17 300 XCW, got my first ride on it this past weekend on some New England rocks and roots. Definitely better than stock. Felt smooth, front tire always felt planted. My biggest takeaway is that I rode noticeably faster. I didn't have to think about what the front tire was doing, just had fun. I need to spend some time fine tuning, but overall I'm very happy with the product.
I bought the kit directly from K-Tech. Installation was not difficult."
"The K-Tech kit eats up small hacky, choppy terrain much better than I could ever get the Xplor to. Loose fist sized rocks on the trail are also dispatched with much more ease. We ride loads of this terrain and I am much more comfortable and confident with the K-Tech fork. The forks also react consistently now whether I hit things at pace or slowly. The stock forks were a bit of a lottery in terms of how they would react.
For sure! Terrain and riding style also plays a big part in this!
Thinking a bit more I can say that the K-Tech kit beefs up the high speed (damper rod speed that is) damping and support. Low speed was good stock and is very good with the kit. Rebound is much more controlled with the kit. So a good positive change all round"
"I've got K-Tech's ORVS and bladder system on my 300TPI. The bladder compliments the ORVS nicely. The bladder is a noticable upgrade. The rear is much more compliant over sharp edged trail junk. Just got back from a trip to Tennesee where we rode a lot of technical single track. Truth be told, I haven't been impressed so much in years. Works Enduro Rider and K-Tech nailed it on this one!"
TheBob_ZA 8-5-19 :" Rode a 2020 250 XCF-W a couple weeks ago. The forks are comfy at trail speeds. As soon as you start hitting square edges or going quick they become harsh. They have better control than the 19 Xplor, but still need help. I can highly recommend the K-Tech ORVS kit with appropriate springs. Very comfy at trail speeds and very good when you pick up the pace."
JMG343 8-6-19 : "My take on the Xplor forks...
Im a mid-pack A rider, when I first got my 2018 I thought the forks weren’t too bad. Not great, but I could certainly live with them. Then I tried a buddies bike and was wowed by how much more plush his bike felt. So, I went ahead and did the K-tech ORVS system and I was blown away at how great my suspension became. I gained significant confidence and, with that, significant speed.
Ive never been terribly picky and am a big subscriber to “its the rider, not the bike”. However, in this case, the Xplor fork is ok for trail riding but can greatly benefit from a little work and extra attention."
JMG343 8-6-19 : "No, I sent my suspension off to a well known tuner and he installed the k-tech system. I already had it sprung for my weight. Forks are now super plush, never bottom out, ride higher in the stroke, and are nice and soft in the nasty hard enduro stuff but still stiff enough to handle the high speed whoop sections and the like. If I am racing or riding in more open terrain, or in really nasty terrain, just a few small adjustments to the clickers and I can be right where I need to be. But, the suspension is so good, for me, that it’s pretty much a set it and forget it system. I rarely have to adjust the clickers and a few times, when I have made adjustments, I ended up going back to my original settings after a few short miles."

K-Tech ORVS and Reservoir Bladder Conversion review
"I rode a 2005 KTM 525 EXC, with suspension set up by XXXXX, for about 13 years before buying my 2018 300 XCW. My '05 suspension was pretty great. It ate rocks right up and really hardly ever deflected. Almost always held my line. It was a bigger, heavier bike that wanted to stand up in corners, but settled into them nicely when properly executed.
